GP Antenatal Shared Care
Ashford Avenue Family Practice offers antenatal shared care for its patients. If you have a low risk pregnancy, you will have the option for your GP to manage you pregnancy in conjunction with the local hospital. This involves regular visits with your GP during your pregnancy, in addition to a number scheduled hospital antenatal visits.
Routine pregnancy investigations can be organised by your family doctor. These include initial antenatal blood tests, glucose tolerance tests to check for gestational diabetes, dating and morphology ultrasounds, and first trimester screening tests including non-invasive perinatal testing (NIPT) and Nuchal Translucency (NT) ultrasounds.
Routine antenatal visits may include:
- blood pressure and weight checks
- fetal heartbeat checks with doppler
- urine tests if indicated
- immunisations including COVID vaccine, whooping cough and influenza
With the current COVID pandemic, antenatal shared care is delivered both face to face and via telehealth.
Our doctors are recognised antenatal shared care providers for the following hospitals:
Please note antenatal shared care is only available to low risk pregnancies. Your doctor will inform whether you are suitable for shared care or not.
