Flu Vaccinations

At Ashford Avenue Family Practice, we provide annual flu vaccinations. As the influenza flu season is typically June-September in any given year we recommend getting the vaccine prior to the onset of the flu season. Traditionally, we distribute the vaccine around late April -May, depending on availability every year.

Some patients may be eligible for the government funded flu vaccine, without any cost to the patient. These vaccines are supplied by the government and is usually targetted  for those at high risk of developing complications from the flu. These groups include:

  • People aged 65 years and over
  • Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait people aged six months to less than five years
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are aged 15 years and over
  • Pregnant women
  • People aged six months and over with medical conditions such as severe asthma, lung or heart disease, low immunity or diabetes that can lead to complications from influenza.

Those who do not meet the above criteria can still get access to the vaccine but will have to pay out of pocket. Onsite corporate flu vaccinations are available and more information can be made on enquiry at reception.

Flu vaccine stocks can vary depending on supply and demand each season. If you would like to reserve your flu vaccine for 2021, please advise reception or your doctor, otherwise vaccines will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note, the influenza vaccine is different from the COVID- 19 vaccine. We will keep out website updated when more news comes out about the COVID -19 vaccine role out.
